The journal

Created in 1881 under the title of Mélanges d’histoire et d’archéologie, the periodical Mélanges de l’École française de Rome is subdivided since 1989 into three series (Antiquity; Middle Ages; Italy and Mediterranean Sea), with two issues per year.

The Mélanges de l’École française de Rome - Italie et Méditerranée modernes et contemporaines (MEFRIM) offer articles on the history of Italy and all the Mediterranean with a special attention to the Franco-Italian relationships, the study of the Roman archives and the history of the Church and the papacy. The wide range of subjects of the periodical includes law, social sciences, geography, sociology and political sciences. Thematic issues focus on a specific theme, often resulting from a workshop coordinated by the École française de Rome.
